Festival of ScotlanD’s Stories

The brief was to develop a campaign, branding and other promotional materials for the ‘Festival of Scotland’s Stories’, which would be on show at the Dundee Contemporary Arts centre. The chosen theme was Scottish myths and legends.

Contemporary style branding was developed by arranging the festival’s initials (FSS) around the title, using a traditional serif font which is known for its prominence in old story books. I illustrated the graphics using a combination of digital and traditional techniques, pieced together into collages. The techniques include drawing, digital painting and vector graphics. Each illustration represents a Scottish story using the characters and the landscapes which they roamed in, as well individual colour schemes which run throughout the branding.

I also created a concept for window vinyls with the intention of these being displayed on the large outer windows of the DCA, alongside a hanging wall installation which showcases the text so viewers can read the infamous stories for themselves. The designs were also mocked-up on promotional materials, including craft beer bottles and pop-up invitations for the opening night.
